Fern has been dancing since the age of five and is a former member of the Jazz Unlimited Dance Ensemble. While in college, Fern studied Music and Dance Therapy. Her choreography for various string bands performing in the annual Mummer’s Day Parade has won her numerous awards. Fern also served as captain of the Berlin String Band and has the distinct recognition of being the only female captain. Fern has started a wide range of programs in the area from creative programs at local pre-schools to senior citizen tap classes at the Jewish Community Center. During the summer, Fern can be found serving as choreographer for Standing Ovation Theatre Company. Fern is also proud to be working with the Next Step Program here at Jazz Unlimited alongside some very special people.
Fern is very proud of her family and is happy that they share her love for Jazz Unlimited. Her daughter, Mandi, was a dancer here and now has graduated from Montclair State University, with a major in Theater studies. This past year Mandi has moved to Florida but continues to share what she has learned here at JU down South. Her other daughter, Jaime, is a former member of the dance ensemble and graduated from Virginia Tech with an engineering degree while also teaching many dance classes and the competition team for a studio in Virginia. She has now moved to Florida and is a product integrity engineer in Disney World and teaches dance whenever she can! Fern is also proud of her son Adam who can be found on stage, TV and on the radio in many different projects and keeps the Dorfman Family busy running from New York to LA.
Fern would like to thank her husband for always supporting her and her parents for always supporting her love of dance and theatre and never missing a JU recital in 45 years!!
Fern is so grateful to have been a part of Jazz Unlimited for so many years, and thanks Carryl, Fred and all the teachers for making it the best place to be!
