MOM & ME QUESTIONS & ANSWERS |
| What Is Mom and Me? |
Our Mom and Me program is a 45 minute class for 2 yr olds that runs September through May ... and yes, Dad's are welcome also. The program is designed to introduce dance movement, tumbling and motor skills in a positive and caring environment. |
| What Do They Learn? |
First it is important for you to know that they will be taught in a progressive and structured manner. This provides them with a solid learning base that will help in all areas as they grow. Repetitive movement provides them with a sense of security and a feeling of accomplishment. The class consists of a warm up, stretch, and basic ballet movement all to songs that are fun and familiar. Next is the tumbling circuit, which is a real favorite part of class. Followed by travel steps, such as walks in releve', galloping and chasses. The class finishes with a fun song or activity and a positive re-enforcement of how well they did, such as a hand stamp, coloring page or treat. We also celebrate each holiday with a fun session. The last 4 weeks of the program are our theme classes, and the very last class is our "Stars of Tomorrow" presentation, which is very informal and held in the studio. Flyers with details on the holiday classes, theme weeks and presentation are handed out prior to each event. |
| What Is My Role As A Parent? |
This is a parent or guardian participation class. You will be assisting your child throughout the class using positive affirmations and hands on contact to assist them in learning the skills being taught. It is a real special time for all involved to learn and have fun. |
| What Does He/She Wear? |
For the girl's any color or style leotard are fine (pink seems to be a favorite), tights and pink ballet slippers. Hair should be in a bun or ponytail so it is away from the face. For the boy's, shorts or sweat pants and a tee shirt with black ballet slippers (they may also wear sneakers during tumbling and socks for the warm up part of class.) |
| What Do I Wear? |
Parent or guardian should dress comfortably, such as work out clothes. Sneakers are fine, socks even better. Hard soled shoes or boots are not permitted in the classroom. |
| What If He/She Doesn't Like It? |
Since it is a new experience we always suggest you give your child a month to get settled. It generally takes about that much time for all to get acquainted and understand the format. The instructor will be more than happy to talk with you about your child's progress. All you need to do is leave a note for the instructor with your concerns. If your child does not wish to continue or is not ready at this time, you just need to relay that to our office so that appropriate credit can be arranged and the instructor notified. Our main focus is to provide you and your child with a wonderful first dance experience. |
